The dimensional art of Theo Schouten Abstract drawings is based on geometric forms, structures and lines. Pieces of work from artists such as Piet Mondriaan, Gerrit Rietveld, and M.C. Escher have always intrigued and captivated him and are still a daily source of inspiration for Theo. For several years Theo Schouten experimented with geometric forms, lines and primary colours to find his own style and a way to ‘translate’ his thoughts into art. Since 2010, these experiments resulted in three dimensional abstract drawings. Theo is fascinated by the contrast between rounded and angular forms, the difference between straight and rectilinear, the contrast between mechanism and autonomy, and the discrepancy between brain processes and instinct.
